Bokashi is a Japanese word meaning “fermented organic matter.” Bokashi bran is one of the key ingredients in the bokashi composting system. Bokashi bran contains billions of microbes that help to break down food waste quickly. 

Bokashi composting is a process by which organic materials, including kitchen scraps like dairy and meat, are quickly fermented in an air-free environment. 

Bokashi can be used as a fermentation agent for compost production, a probiotic feed additive for animals, or as an organic fertilizer for plants.
